Good afternoon, I recently bought a 2014 Chevy Malibu ECO 2.4L six-speed and when initially turning the car on, the rpms begin at a normal 1,000 rpms, or just above. Though over the course of 30 seconds, the rpms begin to drop quickly, finally resting around 300-500 rpms. The engine will then start to shake a lot and then stall after another 10 seconds of inactivity. The car has started right back up every single time after, sometimes it just sounds a little rougher. The stalling doesn’t happen every time, and I haven’t noticed temperature outside or any other factors that add/take away from if the car decides to stall. Sometimes once I put the car in gear it will stall too, or act as if it is shut off, then suddenly recognizing my foot on the gas, and start jerking until I am going above 5-10mph. While in drive at stoplights, the car idles at maybe 200rpms, and feels like it constantly is going to stall. Engine light comes on and off each day. Every Autozone I have went to gives the same code P058B, Battery Sensor Module Current Monitoring Performance. Every forum I have read does not give me answers. Autozone has tested both the main and auxiliary batteries, and the starting system, and everything looked great. I have replaced a $30 battery sensor hoping it was a cheap fix with no luck. I have had a mechanic clean my throttle body with no difference being seen either. If I disconnect the battery, I notice the car runs smooth for about an hour. After that, every time I turn the car on it feels like a different car, sometimes shifting/accelerating great, or feeling slow and sluggish. I am sure the start/stop system does not help this issue either, as sometimes it works, but generally it doesn’t. Even when it does, the car will turn back on at stoplights way before I take my foot of the break. Or it engages for a split second when I shift into park. I recently took it to the Chevrolet dealership to have the check engine diagnosed. This is what they said was the issue “Inspected and found negative battery terminal loose and negative battery cable to module installed incorrectly, also several connections at battery fuse block loose 733 1.0 reconnected and retorqued cables and fuses at battery.” After picking my car up, the idle immediately sat at 400rpms in park and maybe 200rpms in drive at a stoplight, and I still feel poor shifting/ delay of the gas being pressed in speeds under5-10 mph. It has only stalled once since the dealership, though every stoplight feels like a toss up. I tried asking if that idle is normal with these Eco Malibu’s, though I just kept getting over talked. With that I am going online and hoping someone can relate and give me better answers. Thank you

I would start with cleaning the throttle body (with throttle body spray and a toothbrush ). Lots of how-to’s on YouTube. Very easy to do. The idle values are too low. If throttle body cleaning doesn’t solve the issue I would move on to the VVT solenoids. Either replace them or clean them using the same throttle body cleaner. There is an intake and exhaust solenoid that controls oil flow to timing chains. Sometimes the screens on them can get dirty/clogged. If cleaning them makes it run better then you should consider replacing them with OEM parts. Working on these is also very easy with how-to’s also on YouTube. Start with these things
