Hi GM Authority Forum members.
The following question comes from Vickie about her 2013 Sonic:
“my engine light is on and when i put gas in it ,it cuts off what is the problem”.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I’m not aware of an issue for your particular vehicle. However, I am aware of running issues that occur when the tank is topped off to high on certain other vehicles.
I was wondering if this could be an O2 sensor issue… though not entirely sure.
I’m assuming your engine cuts off during fueling by your description of the problem.if so,your engine should be off for refueling.Your cars computer is monitoring the fuel tank pressure while the car is running..when you open the gas cap it’s sets a code for loss of pressure, assumes the gas cap is gone and shuts the car down for safety reasons.CAR OFF DURING FUELING.hope this helps.
Your engine should not be running when refueling any ICE vehicle.
