ParticipantDoes anyone know if you can add the Side Blind Zone Alert mirrors from the GMC Terrain Denali to the Chevy Equinox easily? Is it plug & play? Would you need to buy more than just the mirrors? Any help would be great.

Participantcan you even do that?? In fact, can you even put swap engines from the 3.0L to the 3.6L?

Moderator@Tom21pa Interesting question.
@CraigInIndy Would you know if there something else outside the mirror assembly that’s required to get the blind spot alert system?
@vic1212 An engine swap? I thought we were talking about swapping mirrors 😉 -

Participantfor the mirrors i didn’t even see some that have the blind spot mirrors… just a bunch of the ones that you can find on the base Equinox along with a few pictures of some eyesore equinox and terrains that got hit really bad.

Moderator@vic1212 I’m sure one can find a pair of new ones from the parts department of their friendly neighborhood Chevy or GMC dealership.

Participantbut then again i’m always curious to know since the nox/terrain have the LFX engine after MY 2013 can you swap the engines if you have a 2010-2012 MY (specifically 2012 MY)?

Moderator@vic1212 You don’t need to order parts based on VIN… just go in there (or call), tell them the part that you need, and have them order it, since they will most likely not have it in stock. If they do, even better.
Getting the part isn’t the difficult part of what @tom21pa wants to do. Rather, the challenge lies in actually making them work with the vehicle’s “electronics”, as in DIC, power, etc.
As for swapping the 3.0 LF1 for the LFX, I’m sure it’s possible. But it’s a matter of how much money you want to sink into it. Might be less expensive to just get a new Equinox/Terrain with the 3.6 in it already and trade in the one that doesn’t.

ParticipantBecause I have tried just to order the cargo shade and the dealer wants my VIN

ParticipantThe sensors are not in the mirror/housing. The sensors are in the corner of the bumper, behind the bumper cover. It would require far more than just changing the mirrors.

Moderator@vic1212 I think they’re asking for your VIN to simply ensure that they get the right one… tell them you don’t have it and tell them to look it up by model and model year.
@CraigInIndy Ah, that’s right! I forgot they’re behind the bumper cover. Well, that makes retrofitting the system more difficult. I’m sure it’s possible, but would probably be quite costly. -

ParticipantI’m pretty sure might as well buy the vehicle that has those…. since there aren’t really any aftermarket ones

ModeratorBy using OEM parts from GM, @tom21pa doesn’t necessarily need to turn to aftermarket solutions. In that regard, I don’t think it’s as much a matter of OEM vs. aftermarket as it is a matter of cost. It could be less expensive, depending on a myriad of factors, to just buy a new Equinox with the Blind Spot system already in place.

ModeratorAh, that’s right! For some reason I was thinking about rear park assist when writing my last message. Sorry about that.
I hope that the Equinox gets BLIS for the 2015 model year. No reason it shouldn’t offer it while the Terrain does.
