So frustrated with the car. Not only no-one can fix (different) dealerships – dashboard computer navigation system always resets itself back to Washington . I manually change it to Illinois, turn off the car and resets itself back again. All my settings reset! Now I am getting an obd code p0008 (timing belt) but with an engine noise pinging when accelerated!!!!! I know that maintenance is due, car is 109K, no warranty. Everywhere I go i get told I need a new engine! I’m scare to go to a dealer and ripped off. I’m a woman and clueless and death scare the charges. Will there be anyone reliable to help me!

P0008 is caused by a worn stretched timing chains. Timing chain replacement is not a reason to replace the engine. You may also have misfire codes, rattle noise on cold starts and other codes. The dealer has the know how as this is a normal repair for the 3.6L.
Good thing is the Lacrosse dose not need the engine removed to do this job.

Note: Poor oil change maintenance speeds up the ware on the chains

Your dealer is not the only one that can work on your car . Ask friends for a reccomendation of a good , honest local mechanic / garage .

This will not be inexpensive , but not the cost of a new engine .

      Best of luck . 🙂
