ParticipantI recently purchased a used car it had been sitting for about 5 months id say its got around 225 thou miles.
They had a dealer sheet in the window it mentioned steering mech failed brakes warn a bad marker light tires failed and running gear which was a front bumper that was cracked nothing more.
I checked the fluids before i bought it had the guy jump start it noticed an exhaust leak which wasnt shown on that sheet and a rear brake light was busted also. So anyways i ended up driving it home no check engine lights on at all. More then likely due to not running in awhile.
So a few days later i drive it over to midas to try and confirm what it was i had put it on ramps and noticed the flex pipe gasket seemed to be leaking so i told them they come out and say its a whole front pipe and that the flex pipe is built on to the other pipe so i have to buy it like that i here the price they want and almost cringe then say well ok just do the work replace it and inspect the car also. So i get the car back with a juicey list of course but mostly simple stuff
I drive the car home and on the way the check engine light comes on so i figured its nothing more then likely the computer cycled and the code is prolly for the 02 sensors so i scanned it with a basic tool one code showing only ended up forgetting what it was before resetting the light but figured it would stay off. Next day i start it and now tire pressure sensor light is on no big deal i figure fill tires back up if its low and light will go out which did not happen.
so anyways next day after that engine light comes back on i read code this time it shows 01 p2430 then i scroll down and says 02 p2430. I look into it online and it says something about a secondary air injection pump fault.
I do not know how common it is for those to fail on these cars as i did not see to many posts or videos about my exact car online.
so anyways i go under the hood and inspect sensor wiring plugs all look good no rust or corrosion.
I take it to the store a couple of times over next few days and notice a burning plastic type smell after about 10 mins of driving almost like the car is going to go up in flames luckly i turn the car off when the odor starts to get strong and make it to the stores shut it off and it goes away kind of . My buddy says a new pipe will do that for about a week give off a funny smell.
So at this point i am still not sure what is going on with the pump i try tapping it with a big screwdriver i tap the valve aswell nothing seems to do anything so i move on to looking for fuses and relays i pull out the relay it does not look damaged the 50 amp fuse does not look blown or dirty either so at this point i am stumped.
I have seen videos where a guy uses a fancy snapon scan tool and seems to be able to test most of the functions of the system turn the relay on turn the pump on activate the valve ect well most people do not have access to a 10 thousand dollar scan tool so i cannot try any of that only thing i see is a generic code.
Now from what seems like it makes sense i see others posting about p2440 codes and 2432 codes which seem to point to a specific part of the air system if you dig online for the deeper code info so am i to assume code p2430 deff means pump failure and thats it.
Like one guy said a pump can be really expensive so you want to rule out everything you can before spending big money id hate to go out and buy this sensor and that one relays ect and still have the light not go out hundreds of $ later.
Any info would be great I also have no idea how to get the pump out or fully remove the air box to get access to the pump any help would be great
