I have a ’14 Impala (new body style) base model with the base radio. The audio on FM stations (it doesn’t matter distant or local) has a ‘motorboat’ sound, almost a digital popping noise. The issue is not present on AM, XM or CD player, only FM. The issue seems to be intermittent, not related to vehicle position or transmitter signal strength or location, it will also do it when the vehicle is stationary engine on or not.

It almost sounds as if the radio is being over-driven – or overpowered by the processing of the station – but that would mean all the stations in my area would need to be running the same audio chain (it does it on stations running an old Optimod and the stations with the latest processing components).
The audio quality of this radio is also lacking compared to previous GM base radios. It is dull and flat sounding.

The dealer has no fix for the popping sound or the dull audio.

I’m looking for suggestions, help, commiserate with with others experiencing the same issue.

      Thanks!

A new problem cropped up with this radio – after an OnStar ‘update’ the radio and parking assist failed. No power. The dealer rebooted and reset the radio and it worked – for 10 days. Now no power to the radio at all. It is back at the dealership.

Has anyone had experience with this issue?
