Reply To: Why the big secret on tracking your vehicle?

I ordered a 2015 Suburban (fully loaded) in March. I was told that delivery would be in 5 to 6 weeks. According to the salesman it is still at 1100. My search outside of GM indicates that the vehicle build delay is 9 to 12 weeks. This was new to the sales man and apparently his sales manager. I tried tracking my order at GM Connects–nothing but an error message. Based on conversation here, that site is no longer in operation. I also tried http://www.chevrolet.com/ownership/order-tracker.extapp.html and got this message: “Sorry, the order information you entered did not match any results in our system.” The salesman said that there were “part shortages” at the Arlington, Texas assembly plant.

After some further “pushing” a GM Chevy rep called today and told me that my order had been “moved up.” According to him, “sold” orders have a lower priority than dealer orders to fill up their inventory. He could still not give me a date due to other issues beside “part shortages.” These include shipping schedules and a lack of railroad cars. I still think it will be at least six weeks and if I had not become a “squeak y wheel,” my order would still be sitting on the salesman’s desk.

I worked as a engineer for 37 years, retiring as an 8th level senior project engineer. I had plenty of plant build experience, but was not aware of the games played by some dealerships and their orders. I thought the “new” GM would be more tuned into customer satisfaction. I did not have this problem when I ordered my 2010 Chevy Traverse.
