@Critter I think you’re referring to something like the Northstar… which was discontinued (to pretty much everyone’s great dismay):

Rumor has it that several years ago, GM had a next-gen Northstar ready to go, but shelved it in favor of using the small block push-rod/LS-series.
Either way, the time of the full-sized V8 in passenger cars is coming to an end, especially with boosted V6 applications capable of making over 400 hp, as the TT LFX is rumored to produce:
