Personally, I feel full EV is the future of automotive powertrains. At present, we’ve got things like the Leaf and Volt; one is early to the party, and one is great for the intermediate time between ICE and EV.
But full EV is still in its infancy, hence why we have the Prius and the Volt. For EV to become mainstream will require jumps in battery technology as demanded in automotive applications.
Then again, if EV is the future, then it would be wise for Cadillac to jump sooner rather than later. GM has loads invested in Voltec and we have yet to see how well the ATS and 3rd gen CTS will do.
I guess it comes down to money. If GM has the money to develop an Voltec platform successor, they should pursue it. Right now, climbing gas prices will move Volt’s and subsequent ELR’s…..and eventually i8’s.
