Actually… while I can see both sides of this coin, I tip my side towards GM offering a lockable glove box lock kit as an available accessory. Here’s why:
KOMO 4 News TV (ABC Affiliate), here in the Seattle area just did a report on 09 April 2012 about a rash of car burglaries in parking lots ranging from Car Pool Parking areas, Movie Theaters, Restaurants, etc.
All the burglars were stealing were the vehicle registrations. These slips of papers had all the information they needed to know where you live. And since you’re currently away, they immediately go to your home and break in.
Now granted, if your car is broken into, it wouldn’t take much to break into a glove box that’s locked. But the King County Sheriff’s office along with the Police Department is urging people to lock their glove box as a deterrent when leaving your car for an extended period of time, or take all important documents with you.
I’m all in favor of that!
