The Jetta does have a coupe, the EOS. Unfortunately, it’s a hard-top convertible and is much more expensive than the average compact mainstream coupe… VW did, however, toy with the idea of a Jetta coupe a few years ago.
For some reason, they decided against it, but my thinking is they will release it in due time — all thanks to the company’s goal of becoming #1 in volume.
Also, the Sentra does have a high-performance version — the SE-R and SE-R SPEC-V. But the Elantra and Forte are two others that don’t have more sporting variants.
Ultimately, it all comes down to priority. I believe GM is on the trailing end of its product turn-around, with its entire portfolio being new or all-new (no legacy products) by 2015 in 90 percent of the segments. After that, it will have more time and resources to dedicate to more “niche” products like a coupe or performance variants of Cruze, etc.
