2021 denali w 6.2L. about to run out of powertrain warranty. Have not had the lifter problem yet… but VERY concerned based on multiple dealership and forum reports. Technicians are being muffled on what they can say about it – had a few guys comment to me from multiple shops now and use the “off the record” before they commented about the stuff they are witnessing daily. I have been told by multiple dealers that it is not ‘if, but when’ for the lifter problem to happen. To be on the proactive side I priced the lifter and pushrod change at my dealership to preemptively address my concerns however the $12k price estimate had me reeling.
I change my oil right away to synthetic upon receipt of my new vehicle and there after religiously every 3000mi. Also installed a catch can which is surprising how much crud is captured (especially when it’s cold out as it also gathers condensation in those lower temps) Perhaps this has helped to sustain my truck – only time will tell. Will consider a 6.6 duramax or perhaps leave the brand that I’ve been so loyal for the past 20 year and go Toyota for improved longevity. GM has a very big problem on their hands & it’s not the lifters but permanent loss of clients.
