Reply To: Catalytic Converter and Flex Pipe Warranty?

I have had a very similar situation with a much more negative result. In November I took my 2018 Traverse Premium with 51K miles to the local dealership because of a fluttering noise. The diagnosis was the front pipe bracket was broken and that caused stress on the catalytic converter that caused it to crack. They told me that GM would not honor the warranty on the catalytic converter because a non warranty part caused the problem. I asked how they knew that and was just told there could be no other reason for the crack. I spoke with different managers at the dealership and they said they could do nothing about it because it was GM’s call. Of course I was not able to speak with someone from GM. The dealer said they would give me a break on the overall charge because I was a good customer. The total charge for the repair and replacement was $1,904. They told me I would not get anywhere with GM Customer Service because all they would do as contact them (the dealer) and they would tell them what they had already told me so if I wanted to waste my time it was up to me.
I contacted GM Customer Service and to say they were less than helpful would be an understatement. They kept asking me for documentation (receipts etc.). After 6 weeks of getting the run around I got a call at 5:30 last night stating that they are not going to provide any assistance because they talked with the dealer and the dealer said I caused the problem and it was the dealer that decided that GM should not cover warranty. The person was very rude to me when I tried to question tis decision.
Anybody have any suggestions or ideas as to what else I can do? Yes, I did pay the $1904 bill because in NYS the car would not pass inspection with the crack in the catalytic converter. Also, as a side note my wife and I have purchased probably 15 GM vehicles in our lives.
