My 2017 Silverado 6.2 liter engine LTZ with 23,000 miles on it has been having transmission shifting problems on and off for several years now. I took it to the dealer, but they couldn’t reproduce the jerkiness that occurs when coming to a stop or accelerating from a stop. Sometimes, sudden shifting jerk sounds like the transmission and rear axle are going to drop to the ground. The problem has gotten more consistent over the last year. The dealer flushed the transmission at no charge even though it is out of factory warranty, but that hasn’t helped. This is not a dealer problem; it is a Chevy engineering and manufacturing problem. I contacted GM Chevy division and spoke with the complaint department. The representative listened to me describe in detail what was happening. Like others on the list here, they want data before taking action, which means taking the truck to the dealer as soon as it happens, picking up a mechanic, and trying to reproduce the effect. I have not done that mainly because my truck sits in the garage mostly. (I’m retired.) And when I take it out it is always because I have something specific to do, not to take test drives of my own truck until the drive train has a spasm.

After discussing the problem back and forth with Chevrolet, I am convinced that owners will have their truck and SUV 8-speed transmissions fixed only when they undertake a class action lawsuit. It is indeed unfortunate that GM refuses to act when their engineers know what the problem is, can fix the problem, but the corporation refuses to act. If a member of this forum hears news of an active lawsuit by owners brought to GM, please let us know.
