That was a good question you asked the dealer. I am not surprised he had no answer. That should give you a clue as to his character.
From what I have read on these forums most dealers can be very elusive about the ordering process and some are outright dishonest.
It is also possible that GM has changed their policy and advised dealers not to give out order numbers due to problems over the last two years and being overwhelmed by the large volume of customer requests for tracking of vehicles being built. I would be curious to know if others are getting their order #’s after ordering? You can go to GM.com and find the chat button to request info directly from GM but I also read many were given false information from GM as well.
I don’t know, just guessing and giving your dealer the benefit of doubt. More likely he is just being elusive with you.
FYI am am not affiliated with GM or any auto business. I am just another customer that went through the ordering process when the s**t was hitting the fan last year with supply chain issues affecting everything and had to educate myself on the whole process to try and understand why my truck was taking so many months to be built and ultimately never was even after reordering an 2023 model.
I only hope things are better now!
