Yes, that is correct, until GM accepts the order and assigns a build date all you have is an order #.
Once GM accepts the order and begins assigning the production status codes your dealer can access those codes to see where your build is in the process and at some point will assign a delivery date.
Be aware that this can be a fluid process and codes and dates can change along the way.
