To my fellow GMC vehicle hopefuls and maxepr:

Yes; my 2022 GM vehicle “purchase” experience has been similar….

My Timeline:
Placed a deposit on: 10-29-21

Order Date by the local Tustin GMC Dealer: 5-5-22

Scheduled for Production – Sialo Mexico: 7-5-22

Picked up for Production: 7-11-22

Build Complete at Holding Facility: 8-4-22

Shipped via Rail: 8-11-22

At Holding Facility: 8-29-22

TENTATIVE Delivery date to local Tustin GMC Dealer: 9-22-22
ARRIVED at Tustin GMC Dealer: 10-1-22 NO issues and or missing devices / computer chips.
I took possession of 2022 GMC 1500 AT4X on: 10-7-22

Throughout this timeline I have maintained a positive attitude.

A suggestion…
Give the GM Customer Representatives a break, they are doing their best, with the information they are able to disseminate to you and I.

My GM Customer Representative experience, has been fine. I might not like their answers, (to my questions) I would have liked, delivery of my vehicle, MONTHS ago.

However; the GM Customer Reps. have ALWAYS been very courteous and professional throughout this challenging situation. I can’t thank them enough.

I’m now sharing exactly what worked for me, preventing my 2022 order from being pushed to a 2023 order. (adding thousands of dollars, for basically the same 2022 vehicle, delivered in 2023)

I figured this out, planned and “customized” my GM vehicle, back in the summer of 2021.
I’ve used this same “plan,” / approach when ordering and delivering purchased product and materials, faster. (In the construction industry)

On 10-21-21; I ordered a higher end, Sierra trim package. (2022 AT4X) Figuring Corporate GMC would build more higher trim package Sierra Trucks, for the opportunity for larger revenues, than their lower trim packages.

Common sense and customization is key.

Common Sense:
PAINT COLORS: There are only so many and a limited amount of, Titanium Rush Metallic and Dynamic Blue Metallic painted Sierra truck bodies. (I love both colors.) An endless supply of Summit White truck bodies.
Therefore; I chose Summit White, because I was betting, a Summit White truck order would get filled faster, (in the 2022 production year) than my other, preferred color choices.

Customization:
Customization is KEY.
Because I’m just another “American Joe,” waiting at Tustin GMC, attempting to get on their waiting list, for a 2022 Sierra AT4X, was NOT an option. I would have NEVER gotten an opportunity to purchase a 2022 Sierra AT4X. If I was fortunate, and, at the “head of the line,” when their allotted AT4X arrived, I’d be at the mercy of the dealership, paying WELL ABOVE MSRP, for a AT4X truck, that probably wouldn’t have everything I’d want, included on my truck, or… stuff, I didn’t want.

Because of this… I “customized” my order; by ordering, an under the rear seat storage kit.

That’s it. NOTHING more. By adding an, under the rear seat storage kit, was enough to move my order from the “normal” assembled production line, and onto the “customize” assembly production line, assuring my order would be included in the 2022 production, and NOT pushed, to a 2023 production. (Adding an additional $7,000 to the MSRP, of every similar 2023 truck) Too much “customization” or NOT common used items, are NOT going to get your truck order, faster, into the “picked for production” on the “custom” truck production line.

When my 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X arrived at Tustin, GMC, I informed them of the GMC Price Protection Program. (learned of the GMC Price Protection Program here on the blog, for those orders which remained 2022 orders and deliveries)

GMC graciously honored the MSRP, (at the time of my order date) paid Tustin GMC the difference, of my 10-21-22 ordered MSRP, and the 10-1-22 listed sticker MSRP. (A significant savings)

On 10-7-22; Tustin GMC treated me fairly and sold the 2022 GMC 1500 AT4X WITHOUT ANY dealer markups.
I financed a portion of my purchase, through my Credit Union promotion, (cutting the dealer’s interest rate in 1/2) at 2.45% APR.

I’m NOW; (one of the very few) a proud owner / drivers of a Summit White ,(with Obsidian Rush, Full grain leather front seat trim) 2022 6.2L V8 Sierra 1500 AT4X.

By the way… what I do for a living???
I’m a Sr. Electrical Project Manager, focused on the EV Charging segment of the electrical construction industry, at the tail end of a local project, installing (1,200 each) EV charging units (both DC fast chargers and Level 2 chargers) at a local So. Cal. airport.

Most would think and have asked… Why aren’t you purchasing an EV truck?? NOT a chance. At best; EV’s are a 4 passenger, (battery powered) vehicle, by NO definition, meet the minimum standards, of a “truck.”

Lastly; Fjb, gavin newsome and their democrat “build back better” money. Their money is paying for my V8 truck AND the fuel, it guzzles!

GMC; we both are, Professional Grade.

Have a great weekend, I’m driving my AT4X!
