Same problem for me – iPod Classic functions for a while then fails. In reviewing some of the other Chevy boards on this topic, it’s a common problem. One solution that seems to actually work is to make sure that you have turned OFF all of the functions that allow the drive to act as a hard drive (Enable Mass Storage on PC, on Enable Disk Use on Mac). This means that you can’t manually manage the songs – you must sync to a playlist. However, it does seem to be working so far. I hope it sticks!
