I am surprised they didn’t advise you sooner. I am a firm believer in preventative maintenance, hence out of 50+ cars and trucks, 8 boats, over 30 motorcycles, jet skiis and God know whatever I virtually never has a single repair. I have a ’21 Colorado with 19K miles and I am getting ready to have the trans flushed and fluid replaced with synthetic ATF. Once you have replaced the original fluid and cleaned out the debris from break in, and switch to syn. ATF you’re good for 50K miles. This is cheap insurance. A transmission overall is about $4K+ on newer cars/trucks. Living in a hot climate or towing as I do, high quality ATF and more frequent changes are key to preventing large out of pocket expenses. All AFT breaks down with age, temperature, foreign partials, and shearing from mechanical pressure on the fluid. Finally consider how short GM warranties are. Better to be safe than sorry.
