The 3.6l has various editions and models. It’s unlikely that from 2008-2014 the 3.6l remained the same. I think the Caddy’s used a version of the 3.6l that would eat oil. If you didn’t change your oil often enough it would lead to wear or damage to the chain and phasors. Sounds similar to your issue tbh. Change that oil or check your level more often. If you bought it used somebody didn’t do proper maintenance.
