Well a year later for this response but maybe someone else can use the info. All vehicles have the VIN stamped at several locations known to Law Enforcement, usually State Troopers have an auto theft detail and can check your vehicle for the number. When your DOT re registered they should have looked for and cross referenced the hidden vin to your newly assigned number.
