The 12 VDC power comes out of your wallet ( $ ) one way or another . No matter how it is charged . Probably does not make a whole lot of difference which way .
Increasing the amperage of the charger would not make any difference as to range . Would possibly make the charging time / cycle shorter ( charging , plugged in at home ) .
The short story is , to increase range , you increase the amp hour rating of the propulsion battery , which does involve increasing its size / weight .
If you want long , electric range , look at the Bolt . It is a 100% Electric Vehicle . The Volt is a plug in hybrid .
I have considered buying a used Volt , but could not agree on price & it is not as roomy , inside , as I would like .
We had a Nissan Leaf & liked it , until someone rear ended it and totaled it . 🙁
Would possibly look at a used Bolt in a few years , if the prices are favorable .
God bless
