This happened to me in a 2000 Malibu. The flashing “Check Engine” light usually shows with a “Misfire” code, meaning the system sensor feed back logic is that one or more cylinders are not firing. My mechanic (my uncle) convinced me to start with most basic things first. For a cylinder to ignite, It needs spark, air, and fuel. He changed the spark plugs (very hard to do on GM V6 front wheel drives) and walah!… running smooth.
