In 2019, the re-engineered and redesigned Sierra 1500 model introduced the AT4 moniker to the pickup truck model line. The new variant delivered a unique formula of authentic off-road capability paired with premium refinement and the bold appearance that GMC has come to be known for. The model is essentially GMC’s version of the 2019 Silverado Trailboss, but with more premium features and equipment.

Notably, the standard powertrain for the 2019 Sierra 1500 AT4 was and remains the 5.3L V8 L84 engine, though the 6.2L V8 L87 and 3.0L LM2 I6 turbo-diesel Duramax engines were also available. Other available content included a segment-first Multi-Color Head-Up Display as well as a segment-first Rear Camera Mirror and a GMC exclusive, industry-first Carbon Fiber Pickup Box.

In 2020 the Sierra 1500 AT4 saw minor changes and updates, including new trailer tow mirrors that were power-adjustable with heated and auto-dimming upper glass, lower convex mirrors, turn signal indicators, puddle lamps, perimeter lighting, auxiliary lighting and memory with power folding/manual extending functionality. The model also saw standard all-weather floor liners, which featured the AT4 logo and were dealer-installed equipment (LPO-level item).

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 also saw a few minor changes, including the addition of AT4 high clearance step (LPO-level item), and the addition of upgradeable AT4 CarbonPro Edition wheels, allowing buyers to opt for 20-inch 6-spoke Carbon Grey painted aluminum (NZQ) wheels with LT265/60R20 MT blackwall Goodyear Wrangler Territory (QFV) tires rather than the standard AT4 wheel.

Notably, buyers can build Sierra SLE, Elevation, and SLT models with AT4 capability by checking the box for certain equipment, such as the X31 Off-Road Package and GMC’s dealer-installed Lift Suspension Upgrade System.
