GM Y Vehicle Platform (GM Y Body)

The Y Platform, or Y Body, is the name of two unrelated General Motors vehicle architectures.

The first was used from 1961 to 1963 to describe a series of compact vehicles from GM’s Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac divisions. The second and current incarnation of the GM Y Platform is unrelated to the first; it is used to refer to the architecture underpinning high-performance, rear-wheel drive vehicles starting from the 1980s through today.
