GM GMT 600 Platform

GMT 600 is a General Motors platform that underpinned full-size utility vans, specifically the first-generation Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

The GMT 600 platform supported a range of GM’s six-cylinder and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, including:

  • 4.3L Vortec 4300/L35 V6 (1996–2001)
  • 4.3L Vortec 4300/LU3 V6 (2002)
  • 5.0L Vortec 5000/L30 V8 (1996–2002)
  • 5.7L Vortec 5700 L31 V8 (1996–2002)
  • 6.5L V8 big block
  • 7.4L V8 big block (1996–2000)
  • 8.1L Vortec 8100/L18 V8 (2001–2002)
  • 6.5L Detroit Diesel V8 engine (1996–2002)

The GMT 600 platform supported two types of GM four-speed automatic transmissions:

  • 4L60e for 1500 series vans
  • 4L80e for 2500 and 3500 series vans

The GMT 600 platform debuted in 1995 on the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana. The vans were replaced with an updated version in 2003.
