The GMC MultiStow tailgate is an integrated tailgate storage compartment that was first introduced on the GMC Canyon line of midsize pickup trucks.
Details & Operation
Offering secure and watertight storage, the MultiStow compartment represents the first built-in tailgate storage solution in the midsize pick truck segment. When the tailgate is down, the lid opens by pulling on either one of the two pull tabs on either side of the tailgate, revealing a 45-inch-wide (1,143 mm) and 4-inch-deep (101 mm) compartment.

The lid is lockable using two slide-style locks, and the compartment is drainable. The lid also has two tabs on each side that enable it to remain vertical, preventing it from “falling” or collapsing into the bed.

The MultiStow tailgate also features a built-in ruler at the edge of the tailgate.
Audio System
The StowFlex tailgate can be optioned with a Bluetooth Audio System by Kicker. Offered as an official Chevrolet accessory, the speaker is operated completely independently from the interior audio system.

It can be operated either via Bluetooth for wireless playback. Those who prefer a wired connection can connect the system using 3.5mm or USB inputs, with the USB connection also used to charge the audio device. The Kicker speaker features custom ABS baffle, a weatherproof amplifier hidden in the tailgate, and weatherproof four-inch coaxial speakers.
The StowFlex speaker was priced at $819 USD at launch.
Availability
MultiStow was first introduced on the 2023 GMC Canyon, where it’s optional on Elevation trims, and standard on AT4, AT4X and Denali.

MultiStow vs. MultiPro
The MultiStow tailgate is an entirely different tailgate from the MultiPro tailgate. While MultiStow offers a built-in storage compartment, MultiPro is a multi-position tailgate available in the GMC Sierra lineup of full-size pickup trucks, including the Sierra 1500, Sierra HD (Sierra 2500 HD and Sierra 3500 HD) and GMC Hummer EV pickup.

Trademark
As GM Authority was first to report, GM filed to trademark MultiStow with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in February 2023.
