General Motors Key Card Technology

The General Motors Key Card is a technology that allows users to unlock, lock and start a vehicle without the need of a traditional keyfob, providing added convenience for owners who share the same vehicle with family members or friends.

The Key Card must not be confused with GM’s Digital Key, the latter being a smartphone app allowing users to access and start the vehicle.

How It Works

Cardholders can unlock the vehicle by tapping the object on a predefined zone, as indicated at the back of the card. The vehicle can also be locked when we exit the vehicle, with the engine or motor turned off and with all doors closed, also by tapping the car on the predefined zone. Said zone could be located on the B-pillar or the door handle. Only the driver door can be unlocked and locked with the Key Card.

Up to eight cards can be programmed per vehicle.

Vehicle Availability

The GM Key Card was introduced in the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq as a standard feature. It became available on the 2026 Chevy Traverse, as part of the Driver Confidence Package (RPO code BGP) on the LT and Z71 trim levels, and standard on the High Country and RS. The Key Card was introduced as a standard feature on all trim levels of the 2026 GMC Acadia and the 2026 Buick Enclave.
