General Motors Hill Hold Assist Technology
Hill Hold Assist, also known as Hill Start Assist, is a General Motors chassis technology that makes it easier for a driver to pull away from a stopped position when the vehicle is on an uphill or downhill slope, thereby preventing roll-back or roll-forward scenarios. The feature is especially helpful for vehicles with manual transmissions.
How It Works
Hill-hold assist applies the vehicle’s brakes for 1.5 seconds when the vehicle is on an incline of 5 percent of steeper and the driver’s foot leaves the brake pedal. The feature calculates whether to engage or not by calculating the vehicle’s yaw and pitch.
Hill Hold Assist (aka Hill Start Assist) are offered on various GM vehicles globally, including vehicles from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Opel, and Vauxhall.
