Expectations – Silverado 1500
We expect the 2028 Chevy Silverado 1500 Light Duty will carry over with only a few changes compared to the 2027 model, which will be completely redesigned.

Expectations – Silverado HD
The 2028 Silverado HD range, which will continue to consist of the Silverado 2500 HD and Silverado 3500 HD, is expected to introduce an all-new model, representing the first model year of the fifth generation Silverado Heavy Duty. Here’s what we expect from the next-gen Silverado HD:
- Powertrain:
- Next-gen / sixth-gen GM Small Block V8 high-displacement gasoline engine with improvements in performance and efficiency
- Next-gen GM Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine with great levels of power
- Ten-speed automatic transmissions expected to carry over with minor improvements
- Design: all-new exterior design that will serve as an evolution of the one seen on the current model, but with design language changes seen on the 2027 Silverado 1500
- Cabin: updated interior with the newest infotainment system
- Architecture: more capable version of the heavy duty T1-2 platform, itself an updated version of the T1 platform that has underpinned the Sierra HD since the 2020 model year
- Improvements in payload and towing capabilities, along with new features for higher levels of comfort and convenience
Expectations – Silverado MD
The 2028 Silverado MD is expected to carry over from the 2025, 2026 and 2027 models with small changes.
Availability
We expect the 2028 Silverado 1500 to enter production in mid-2027 and the 2028 Silverado HD to enter production during the third quarter of 2027. The Silverado HD should enter production in January 2027.
Production
As of 2019, Silverado 1500 models have been assembled at the Silao plant in Mexico and the Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, USA.
Additionally, the Oshawa plant in Canada builds only Chevrolet Silverados (and not its corporate platform mate, the GMC Sierra), in both 1500 and HD guises. The GM Flint plant in Michigan builds HD models only.
The Silverado Medium Duty 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD are built at the Navistar Springfield plant in Springfield, Ohio, United States.
