Expectations – Silverado 1500
The 2027 Silverado 1500 is expected to introduce an all-new model, representing the first model year of the fifth generation truck. Here’s what we expect from the next-gen Silverado 1500:
- Powertrain:
- Next-gen / sixth-gen GM Small Block gasoline engine(s) with notable improvements in performance and efficiency, including a 10 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to current models. The sixth-gen Small Block engine(s) will be produced at the GM Flint Engine Plant, which received a $579 million investment to make them
- The 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine and 2.7L I4 L3B turbocharged gasoline engine, otherwise known as TurboMax, are expected to carry over
- A new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain is also expected as part of GM’s pivot to offer PHEV models
- Design: all-new exterior design that will serve as an evolution of the one seen on the current model
- Cabin: updated interior with the newest infotainment system
- Architecture: an updated platform known as T1-2, an updated version of the T1 platform
- Improvements in driving characteristics and capabilities, including unladed driving, towing and hauling, plus new comfort and convenience features
Expectations – Silverado HD
We expect that the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD range, consisting of the 2500 HD and 3500 HD models, will carry over with only a few changes over the 2025 and 2026 models. An all-new Silverado HD should land for the 2028 model year, adopting the generational improvements from the 2027 Silverado 1500.

Expectations – Silverado MD
The 2027 Silverado MD is expected to carry over from the 2025 and 2026 models with small changes.
Availability
We expect the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and HD to enter the U.S. market in late 2026. The Silverado MD should be available in January 2027.
Production
As of 2019, Silverado 1500 models have been assembled at the Silao plant in Mexico and the Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, USA.
Additionally, the Oshawa plant in Canada builds only Chevrolet Silverados (and not its corporate platform mate, the GMC Sierra), in both 1500 and HD guises. The GM Flint plant in Michigan builds HD models only.
The Silverado Medium Duty 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD are built at the Navistar Springfield plant in Springfield, Ohio, United States.
