Having launched the 2014 Chevy Silverado, General Motors/Chevrolet will issue several updates to the new truck for the 2015 model year, with the most notable changes consisting of:
- New 8-speed automatic transmission
- New Rally edition package
- New technology and trim level revisions
- New diesel engine for Silverado 1500 (unconfirmed)
The most notable of the updates will be the addition of a new 8-speed automatic transmission to replace the 6-speed gearbox in the 2014 model year trucks. The two additional gears should result in improved power delivery and fuel economy. In addition, the 2015 Silverado will add a new Rally package that will provide the full-size truck with a sportier appearance package. New technology and changes to the Silverado’s trim levels are also expected.
General Motors could also add a new diesel engine to the Silverado 1500. The automaker was rumored to have developed a new 4.5 liter V8 diesel engine in the early to mid 2000s, but the powerplant never reached production. Although entirely unconfirmed, it is possible that GM could resurrect the engine for the Silverado 1500 to battle newfound competition from Ram, which will offer a diesel engine in its line of Ram 1500 pickup trucks.
