2016 Chevrolet Lova RV

The 2016 Chevrolet Lova RV is a subcompact people mover available exclusively in China. The 2016 model year represents the first year of the the Lova RV, which “combines a stylish design with flexibility”, according to Chevrolet.

The Lova RV features the the Chevrolet design DNA. The brand describes the styling as “nimble” and “elegant”. We see the design as being similar to the Chinese-market Chevrolet Sonic, on which we believe the Lova is based on.

Identifiable exterior design elements include:

  • A body “that has been stretched to increase space for passengers and their belongings”
  • A “floating roofline” that adds a sense of fashion to the exterior
  • A high roof and long rear overhang
  • The smooth integration of a dynamic dual beltline with flowing lines in the rear, adding a sense of grace to the exterior while reducing the drag coefficient

The Chevrolet design DNA can be seen in the Lova’s front fascia, which incorporates its latest wide, horizontal flush front end and sporty lip spoiler. The hood features three powerful lines connects to a shield-shaped dual-port grille that has a three-dimensional effect. Delicate chrome accents are featured on both sides of the grille to enhance the sharpness of the ascending eagle eye-shaped xenon headlamps, which offer high-quality night vision while saving energy.

Designers optimized the Love RV’s visual proportions with smart details such as a newly-designed floating roofline, 360-degree panoramic back window and hidden D-pillar provide a broad view for the driver and passengers. The vehicle features a 2,550 mm (100 inch) wheelbase.

Chevy says that the rear of the Lova RV “carries over the masculine styling of the Camaro, a classic supercar from Chevrolet”. The rear end features dual-element taillights — a common Chevrolet design trait — and an integrated rear wing, which gives the back a wide-looking stance.

Dark-tinted rear glass ensures privacy for rear-seat passengers and the cargo area while sport roof rails – a feature rarely seen on family cars in the segment of the Lova RV – provide additional cargo carrying capacity, putting the “recreation” into the recreational vehicle that the Lova is.

The interior of the Lova RV incorporates Chevrolet’s latest signature dual-cockpit design. Key features of the cabin include a high roof and wide body, ensuring an ergonomic and roomy interior without compromising performance. There is also generous leg and shoulder room for rear-seat passengers.

A stylish instrument panel is mated with a crystal ice blue dashboard, giving the cabin a high-tech feel. Adding a sense of luxury are chrome-trimmed door handles, “laser-engraved etching”, a multifunctional leather steering wheel and a 7-inch high-definition touch screen with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system in the center console.

Chevy says that engineers focused on making the interior of the Lova RV flexible. Its 4:6 split-folding rear seats enable cargo space of up to 972 liters, making it even possible to accommodate bulky items. The Lova RV also comes with 22 user-friendly storage spaces, including an innovative umbrella slot, front- and rear-seat cup holders and a specifically-designed slot on the driver’s side to enable users to stow common items.

Chevrolet markets the Lova as an RV, or Recreational Vehicle, presenting it as opening a new vehicle segment: “the only urban recreational vehicle (RV) in its class”, GM states. However, the Lova is actually a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), more commonly known as a minivan.

Moreover, General Motors and Chevrolet officially spell the name of the vehicle in all caps, like so: LOVA RV.

General Motors states that the the Lova RV “will meet the needs of younger urban car buyers for a vehicle that serves as a tool for both business and a modern leisurely lifestyle”. The brand also states that the Love “is ideal for younger car buyers who want to make the most of their leisure time.”

Moreover, GM states that the Lova “inherits Chevrolet’s spirit of “energy and optimism.” It will meet the growing demand, especially among China’s younger car buyers, for a vehicle that will enable them to enjoy their leisure time.”

Where

The Chevrolet Lova RV is available exclusively in the Chinese market.

When

The Lova RV went on sale in the fourth quarter of 2015.

General Motors China released official information on the Lova RV on October 14th, 2015.

General Motors has yet to confirm the Chevrolet Lova platform. However, Chevrolet states that the Love RV “is based on an all-new utility vehicle platform” and that the wheelbase of the Lova RV measures 2,550 mm.

This leads us to believe that the Lova RV rides on a slightly elongated version of GM’s Gamma platform.

We will update this page when Chevrolet Lova RV specifications become available.
