The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may be different for other markets.
Body Styles
The 2020 Chevrolet Impala continues to be offered as a four-door full-size sedan.
Platform
Like all tenth-generation units of the Chevrolet Impala, the 2020 Impala continues to ride on a long-wheelbase variant of the GM Epsilon II platform called Super Epsilon. The architecture is shared with the second-generation Buick LaCrosse and first-generation Cadillac XTS. A short wheelbase of the Epsilon architecture underpinned the eighth-generation Chevrolet Malibu and fifth-generation Buick Regal.
Powertrain
The 2020 Impala discontinues the base 2.5L LCV engine. As such, it’s offered with only one engines and transmission combination for the 2020 model year.
Manufacturer | Brand | Model | Model Year | Engine | Wheel Drive | Transmission | Power (hp / kW @ RPM) | Torque (lb-ft / Nm @ RPM) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
General Motors Company | Chevrolet | Impala | 2019 | 3.6L V6 LFXÂ DOHC | Front wheel drive | 6-speed auto M7W | 305 /Â 227 @ 6800 | 264 /Â 356 @Â 5200 |
Production
Assembly of the 2020 Chevrolet Impala took place at the following plants for global markets:
- GM Detroit-Hamtramck factory in Detroit, Michigan USA (GM USA)
- GM Oshawa factory in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada (GM Canada)
- Production at this plant ended in December 2019 as the facility has been shut down
Prices
The 2020 Impala sees a price bump, from $28,020 for the 2019 model to $31,620 for the 2020 model. The increase is mostly associated with the fact that the 3.6L V6 engine, optional on the 2019 model, is now standard on the 2020 model.
Availability
The 2020 Impala followed the regular GM model year rollover sequence, and become available for purchase at dealers around the third quarter of the 2019 calendar year.
Beyond 2020
The 2020 model year will mark the end of the line tenth-generation Chevrolet Impala, as production of the vehicle will be stopped. The decision comes at a time when consumer demand for sedans is shrinking while interest and demand for crossovers is on the rise.
Meanwhile, the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant that produced the 2020 model will be converted to produce large electric pickup trucks for GM’s Chevrolet, GMC and Hummer brands.
