Chevrolet introduced a diesel engine in its Colorado midsize pickup truck for the 2016 model year in the North American market. The 2016 Colorado Diesel is powered by a new 2.8L inline-four-cylinder Duramax turbo-diesel engine making 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
Along with its brother — the 2016 GMC Canyon — the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel is the only vehicle in the midsize pickup truck segment to offer a diesel motor.
The 2016 Chevy Colorado lineup sees various changes and updates compared to the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, such as:
- Losing the Rally Yellow exterior color
- Making the rear-sliding window as standard equipment on Z71 and included in the (PCM) LT Convenience Package
- Getting two in-vehicle technology enhancements, including:
- New enhanced multicolor driver information center display

The 2.8L Duramax LWN Turbo-Diesel in the 2016 Colorado Diesel is rated at:
- 181 horsepower (135 kW) @ 3400 RPM
- 369 pound-feet (500 Nm) of torque @2000 RPM
On the 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel, the 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine is mated exclusively to GM’s MYB 6-speed automatic 6L50 transmission.
4WD models are equipped with an electric 2-speed transfer case (NQ7) and the Z71 models in 4WD are equipped with a transfer case shield.
The 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel is equipped exclusively with the 3.42 ratio rear axle.
