The 2018 Cadillac XT5 is offered with a mild hybrid system exclusively in China. The vehicle offers enhanced efficiency and improvements in the driving experience when compared to the non-hybrid model powered by the turbo 2.0L I-4 LTG gasoline engine.
Introduction
Introduced on August 25th, 2017 at the 2017 Chengdu Motor Show.
Fuel Consumption
The combination of the intelligent mild hybrid system and GM’s latest nine-speed transmission has dramatically reduced fuel consumption to 7.9 liters/100 km.
Driving Experience
The XT5 mild hybrid improves driving agility and ride comfort in four driving conditions:
- Acceleration – the engine works in conjunction with the electric motor when the crossover accelerates, thereby providing more power and improving acceleration
- Cruising – the electric motor recovers excess power as the vehicle is being driven at speed, boosting energy efficiency and gathering momentum for the next time the vehicle is asked to accelerate
- Braking – the electric motor also recovers energy when braking
- Start/Stop events
Transmission
The XT5 mild hybrid comes with the new GM 9-speed automatic transmission.  strikes a balance between high performance and efficiency. It is calibrated especially for driving conditions in urban areas.
The extra speed improves the crossover’s acceleration in the low and medium speed range. This enables the XT5 to drive smoother on congested roads.
At full throttle, the transmission upshifts more swiftly to ensure seamless, faster acceleration.
Availability
The XT5 mild hybrid is available in two trim levels that replace two others in the lineup.
