Officially debuting at the 2005 New York International Auto Show and going on sale for the 2006 model year, the Cadillac XLR-V was part of the first-generation Cadillac V-Series vehicles, which also included the CTS-V and STS-V.

Upgrades over the standard XLR model included Corvette Z51-derived brakes, 19-inch wheels, revised front and rear fascias, a tweaked interior, and of course the Northstar supercharged 4.4L V8 LC3 gasoline engine.

Producing 443 horsepower and 414 pound-feet of torque, DOHC Northstar powerplant featured an all-aluminum engine block and cylinder heads, forged steel crankshaft, and cast iron camshafts. The GM six-speed automatic transmission directed output to the rear wheels, enabling the XLR-V to accelerate to 60 mph in 4.6 second, cross the quarter-mile in 13 seconds, and reach its electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. Interestingly, the XLR-V’s powertrain made slightly less power than that of the Cadillac STS-V which featured the same engine but was rated at 469 horses and 439 pound-feet of torque.

Pricing for the Cadillac XLR-V started at $97,485 at launch, balooning to $104,215 by 2009.
