General Motors and Buick executives have denied plans to bring the Avenir to market, instead insisting that the Avenir’s design direction will shape the design of future Buick vehicles.

The 2016 Buick Avenir Concept was tasked with being Buick’s theoretical flagship. Going back and forth from design studios in North America and Australia, the Avenir received a lot of attention from designers. So much attention, it won the 2015 EyesOn Design award at the North American International Auto Show.

Michael Simcoe, executive director of Buick design said, “Buick is a brand that deserves this level of sculpture, it’s a subtle presence, but without any pretense in the design.” Boy does the Avenir deliver.

Up front, the Avenir’s headlights have “winged” LED accents that give the car a sophisticated presence. The Avenir was also the first concept to feature a more modern take on the Buick waterfall grille and reintroduction of the colored tri-shield logo.

Designers wanted to pay homage to the third-gen Buick Riviera by giving it the “boat-tail” treatment. Taillights also get the “winged” LED treatment to create a cohesive design.

Additional Exterior Features
• Full LED exterior lighting
• 21-inch wheels
• 204.5 inches long
• 76 inches wide
• “Crystalline” exterior color

On the inside, this big sedan employs a 2+2 layout swathed with gorgeous leather, suede and wood accents.

Custom stitching lines the cabin to create a luxurious and inviting place to be.

A 12-inch color touch screen sits center stage of the beautifully sculpted interior. In front of the three spoke steering wheels lays a configurable fully digital display.

Rear passengers aren’t left behind with two seat-mounted screens and a “floating” center console. Leather, metal and wood accents make the backseat look just as in enticing.

After the 2017 Buick LaCrosse was revealed, it’s obvious the Avenir served as a preview for the LaCrosse’s new interior.

Interior Features
• Next-generation Buick IntelliLink infotainment with large, 12-inch-diagonal color touch screen
• Driver-recognition features that automatically sync infotainment preferences
• OnStar® 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot

The Avenir features a brand-new twin-turbo V-6 good for 400 hp. This engine will feature a nine-speed automatic transmission, auto stop/start and cylinder deactivation technology.

The Buick Avenir Concept rides on GM’s Omega platform. Wheelbase is 204.5 inches long. The architecture is shared with the 2017 Cadillac CT6.

The Buick Avenir concept is based on a rear-drive chassis. The Avenir features a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system.

The suspension can also be adjusted through Buick “driver-selectable” suspension damping presets — possibly sporting GM’s worshiped Magnetic Ride Control.

IntelliLink Screen

Center stage, the Avenir’s 12-inch touchscreen houses the latest Buick IntelliLink software.

Once the vehicle is started, the system recognizes the driver and automatically syncs infotainment and gauge cluster display preferences. The system also syncs with the driver’s smartphone’s music, calendar and map apps. Other features would enable access to home security cameras, turning on outside lights and garage controls.

The Avenir also keeps things fresh with an ionic cabin air filtration system. The interior also features a mobile device wireless charging system alongside the now expected OnStar 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot.
