Martinique Blue 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Up For Sale In Florida

Black and gold tend to be the colors most commonly associated with the “Smokey and the Bandit” Pontiac Trans Am produced from 1977-1978. However, the stylish Martinique Blue paint option, which was exclusively available for 1978, brings a brighter, more colorful personality to this muscle car. A beautifully restored example is currently for sale in Florida.

Up for sale from Trans Am Specialties is this 1978 model with the W72 Performance Package, a numbers-matching 400ci V8, and a four-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The W72 package used a high-performance version of the Pontiac 400 V8 with high-flow cylinder heads, a more aggressive cam, a dual-snorkel air cleaner, and a high-flow exhaust system. It brought the output of the V8 to 220 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.

The rare Martinique Blue paint is complemented by a custom “Screaming Chicken” hood decal with five shades of blue, plus blue “Trans Am” branding on the front fenders, front fascia, and trunk lid, and “T/A 6.6″ on the functional hood cowl. A set of aftermarket 15″x8” snowflake-style wheels keeps the period-correct look while enhancing the car’s stance.

The listing states that the car was previously in the St. Louis Museum collection and was fully restored from the late 1990s through the mid-2000s. The odometer reads 70,169 miles. An invoice shown in the photo gallery shows an original MSRP of $7,136, which is a little under $35,000 in 2025 dollars.

The asking price for this collectible Trans Am is $59,900. The selling dealer is located in Miami, Florida, and says it can arrange for shipping anywhere in the U.S. If you’re into this era of the Trans Am and like the idea of something different from the usual black, this Martinique Blue example is sure to turn heads.

  1. What a great car. Nice to see something other than Black and Gold. A little bit steep on the price but I’m sure someone will pay it. Really nice to see a stick of that era. Mid to late 70s was the time when just about every car had an automatic. And this one has air as well. Bonus.

  3. At least it has the correct package. Not the boat anchor 403 Oldsmobile engine.

    1. I disagree I own a 1978 y88 gold anniversary with the 403 engine and performs fairly well with the 3.23 gears that came with the ws6 package.

  4. Beautiful machine! Too bad GM doesn’t build cool cars anymore.

  5. Even with price of inflation, how many could GM sell at $35,000?! Imagine a Camaro outfitted like this for that price.
