GM Sales Growing Faster Than U.S. Industry During Q2 2025

GM recently posted sales results for the second quarter of the 2025 calendar year, showing an impressive seven-percent year-over-year increase in U.S. sales volume for the quarter, as well as a 12 percent increase for the first half of the year. Critically, the latest General Motors sales results outpaced the broader U.S. auto industry, the latter of which is estimated to have grown just 2.7 percent in Q2 and 3.7 percent for the first half of 2025. What’s more, without General Motors’ contribution, the rest of the market grew only 1.7 percent in Q2 and 2.2 percent in the first six months.

GM sales results as of Q2, 2025.

General Motors led the U.S. in both total and retail sales during the first six months of 2025, with strong performance across every major brand. The company delivered 746,588 units in Q2 and 1.4 million units in the first half, with market share climbing to an estimated 17.4 percent for the quarter and 17.3 percent in the first half.

Buick posted the largest first-half sales increase of any mainstream U.S. brand, with Q2 sales up 19 percent and first-half sales up 29 percent. GMC recorded its best-ever first-half results, driven by record sales for the GMC Sierra pickup truck. Chevrolet saw its best first-half since 2019, with nine percent growth and record sales for crossovers and EV models. Cadillac was also up 15 percent in Q2, its best since 2007.

Crossover demand fueled much of General Motors’ growth. The automaker introduced 10 new or redesigned crossover models over the past two years, leading to record crossover sales across the Chevrolet, GMC, and Buick brands. Standouts include the Chevy Traverse (up 56 percent), Buick Enclave (up 46 percent), and GMC Acadia (up 66 percent).

General Motors also solidified its position as the second-best EV manufacturer in the U.S., showing EV sales up over 100 percent in Q2, with Chevy and Cadillac leading the charge. EV sales totaled 78,167 for the first half of the year, with a Q2 EV market share of 16 percent. Finally, fleet sales also increased, with GM Envolve up 10 percent in the first half, outperforming in a segment that declined roughly 3 percent.

  1. It’s pretty sad when your “growth” comes from a segment that just had it’s subsidies cut.
