Buick Envision Driver First Florida ‘Super Speeder’ Law Arrest: Video

A Buick Envision driver was the first to face the consequences of a new law in Florida that targets speeders traveling at triple-digit speeds. The driver was caught driving 104 miles per hour just minutes after the rule took effect on July 1st. With the new law now in place, Florida law enforcement can now arrest drivers going more than 100 mph or 50 mph over the posted speed limit.

This new rule is part of the state’s “Super Speeder” law, and is meant to improve road safety. The law is now in effect ahead of a major increase in highway traffic for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

In a newly released body cam video from FOX 35 Orlando, the Buick Envision driver is seen pulled over to the side of the road as the officer informs him of the new Super Speeder law. The crossover in question appears to be either a 2024 or 2025 Envision, as evidenced by the new Buick Tri-Shield logo on the steering wheel, the redesigned shift lever, and the uncovered cupholders.

FOX 35 Orlando reports that more than 72 million Americans are expected to travel by car this holiday weekend, with Orlando set as one of the top destinations in the country. In response, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is increasing its staffing and safety patrols, working to assist drivers experiencing car trouble, as well as to clear crashes quickly to avoid traffic jams.

FDOT says it now has a renewed focus on safety via its “Target Zero” policy, which aims for zero deaths or serious injuries on Florida roads. The new Super Speeder law is part of that effort.

The penalties for breaking the new law are quite serious, with first-time offenders facing up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both. A second offense could mean 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

  1. Yeah. 100 mph is criminally excessive (IMO).

  2. Dumb law. 100mph should be the minimum speed.

  3. Sure. Pick on the Buick. Meanwhile in South Florida on I-95 the Lamborghini’s, Maserati’s and the like will continue on and will not be stopped.

  4. I guess the previous speeding laws weren’t working to actually prevent speeding. Duh!
Penalties are afterthoughts. This new law will in no way stop a single person who wants or decides to speed from speeding. $500. What a joke. Make it 10k and that might make a tiny difference. Make 50 over a lifetime license suspension and send the vehicle to public auction. That might piss off Dad enough actually discipline their idiot kid.
