Will GM Bring Buick Envision Production Stateside?

GM recently announced a series of investments slated for three of its U.S. manufacturing facilities, including Orion Assembly in Michigan, Fairfax Assembly in Kansas, and Spring Hill Manufacturing in Tennessee. The investment will support both ICE and EV production, with Fairfax Assembly now set to manufacture the next-generation ICE-based Chevy Equinox crossover starting in mid-2027. With that in mind, this massive new investment may open the door for Fairfax to build the Buick Envision domestically as well.

Why? Well, for starters, the Buick Envision is built on the same E2 platform as the Equinox, so it isn’t too much of a stretch to imagine GM retooling the Fairfax plant to build the Envision and Equinox at the same facility.

Additionally, the Buick Envision is currently selling quite well in the U.S., and moving production stateside could keep pricing for the crossover competitive (especially in the face of costly tariffs), all while supporting the local economy. As GM Authority covered previously, Buick Envision sales increased in the United States, Canada, and Mexico during the first quarter of 2025. In the U.S., Envision sales were up to 15,485 units during the first quarter of the 2025 calendar year, an increase of more than 17 percent year-over-year and landing the Envision just behind the Lexus NX (17,992 units) in the Luxury Crossover C-Segment in terms of sales volume.

At present, the U.S.-spec Buick Envision is produced at the GM-SAIC Jinqiao plant in china, which means it may be subject to some rather hefty fines as a result of Trump’s latest trade policies.

Also notable is the possible production of a new Equinox PHEV variant at the Fairfax facility. As GM Authority covered previously, a new North American-spec Equinox PHEV appears to be under development, with a prototype model recently spotted by our spy photographers. What’s more, a new Equinox PHEV would coincide with both GM’s broader investment plan and GM’s previously stated goal to reintroduce new PHEVs to the North American market around the 2027 timeframe.

Of course, only time will tell how GM chooses to handle production of the Buick Envision going forward, so stay tuned to GM Authority for all the latest.

  1. My neighbors have a ’23 Avenir. Aside from the 2.0 engine, there’s little to recommend it. It has a cargo hold comparable to the Trailblazer and it’s certainly not worth almost $50K (especially as it’s built in low-wage China). Most units on lots are $40K+. GM will be slow to give up this gift horse.

    1. Quality is the exact same overseas as stateside. So are you saying it isn’t worth $50k no matter where it is built, or are you some blinded UAW fanboy that doesn’t understand how the world works?

    2. Wrong to the earlier commenter about the Avenir. The Envision is currently one of the best made, most reliable highest quality vehicles in the entire GM stable, as the awards and sales figures indicate. How that may change if manufactured in America is unknown. Hopefully it will be of similar quality.

  2. Please bring the Envision production stateside. Build it with the XT4.

    1. Mr. XT4, he dead.

  3. A hybrid, American-built Buick Envision would look to me like a sales winner. It’s among the better looking vehicles in its class and fixing its power train and country of origin would seal the deal.

  4. Yes, Envision should be brought to the U.S.

Also Buick needs to build a vehicle between the Envision and Enclave. The Envision is 190 inches long the Enclave 207. That is a big gap.

Call it an Envoy and make it three rows but make it 198 inches. Enclave too big for some and Envision too small. Envision Plus name in China is stupid so don’t do that. Make it a different model name.

Chevy version between Traverse and Equinox also needed. Tweener Buick and Chevy is a no brainer $$$ cash cow for GM

  5. My Chinese built Envision had far superior build quality compared to my US built Cadillac XT4. Just saying.

      1. And what are your words of wisdom about fascists?

        1. Well that fascist strongly admires dictators with Xi being one of his favorites. So he must be learning from the best. And Xi is the best dictator the world has seen. Efficient at silencing dissidents and controlling the narrative of his people. And the world, still kisses his feet and look the other way. Any fascist would be envious.

    2. If its sooo much better there then, why live in Canada? Go live in China. There you can embrace it all my friend. “Superior” build quality, surveillance of your every move and what you consume on the internet so you can feel safe. Prices that don’t inflate but actually deflate. Why would anyone want to live in Canada or US when this place sounds like a flawless utopia.

But don’t come back if you change your mind. Leave that space you left to the thousands of Chinese migrants making the dangerous Darien Gap trek to the southern US border and Canada and keep that Wumao garbage out of my great white north. Life must be so good for these people, many who are middle class, that they must not find it challenging enough over there and are making dangerous journeys to North America…

  6. My 2017 Envision has only had tire rotations and oil changes. It never had any warranty work or even any minor adjustments Can’t beat that

    1. Let’s see, 8 people had thumbs down to this…presumably those people reside in the USA, but not necessarily I guess. Do Honda/Toyota have websites in Japan where people would prefer their cars be made by the CCP as opposed to Japan? Or is that just us lucky Americans?

      1. Look up Wumao or 50 cent army. While yes there are many in this country that take our perks for granted there are also full on operations of people from the country the Envision originates from who’s main job is to spread pro-China propaganda. That includes comments like the one Kei makes (I give him the benefit of the doubt that he is simply one clueless soul that never lived in an authoritarian regime and is actually not a paid member of the 50 cent army), upvoting comments like the one Kei makes, and downvoting comments that dispute them. I seen insider videos of these operations and they have crazy setups like racks of 20 phones connected to one computer just for this nonsense.

  9. I definitely would Love to see this happen. The Envision should be built at either Fairfax or in Lansing. It also would be Great if GM would and they definitely should reinvest in Flint Michigan and bring All current and future Buick manufacturing including Engines, Transmissions as well as All Parts and Components back to Flint as well as bringing Envista and Encore GX production back to the USA too. Buick needs a few assembly plants in Flint as well as a Brand New State of the Art Multi-Level Modern Buick World Headquarters. I’ll Only buy and drive Buicks and Cadillacs made Only here in the USA.

    1. I am confused. You said nothing aggressive and simply stated national pride to have things made in the US. Why did so many downvote you? I swear this site, while not as bad as others (like CarScoops), must have a few Wumao patrolling the area trying to earn their 50 cents.

  10. It may have made sense with the first gen model. It was a new model geared towards the Chinese market, and GM wasn’t sure how it would be received in the US. It turned out well. I like the 1st gen model The new 2nd gen model was designed with the US market in mind also. And it turns out Americans want a 5-passenger Buick SUV. I longed for one since the Rainier which was one of my favorite SUVs out of GM. I remember the rumors of GM rebadging the Opel Antara as a Buick after the demise of Saturn but they chose to throw it over to Chevrolet as a fleet only vehicle instead.

  11. I had high hopes that GM would bring several Chinese made Buicks to the US after killing the lacrosse

I will continue to scratch my head why GM can have a CUV and sedan share a platform. They can have a million different sizes CUVs share but not a sedan?

I’m all for the envision, Trax, trailblazer, encore and Envista to be made in the US but I will say the quality from SK and China are superior to the lackluster UAW. I’d rather take a vehicle not built buy the UAW as they have less pride in the work from my experience. Working with non union or even unions elsewhere they have a better mentality imo. If GM can make them here and have better or similar quality than by all means I hope it comes here
