Some 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Units Need A Comprehensive Software Update

General Motors has released a Service Update for select units of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq for a series of software updates. Service Update number N252502390 applies to certain units of the 2023 Lyriq that may require software updates that improve the customer experience and optimize future over-the-air (OTA) updates. This should take certified GM technicians approximately one hour to perform.

Examples in dealer possession can’t be sold or released until the software update is performed. At this time, it’s unclear how many Cadillac Lyriq crossovers are affected by the service update.

This service update only applies to the 2023 model year of the Cadillac Lyriq. However, GM issued a very similar Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) last summer for the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. Similar to this new service update, it called for software updates to improve the customer experience and optimize future over-the-air (OTA) updates.

The updates specified in the documentation for this new service update include reprogramming the battery energy control module and reprogramming the radio. In much the same way modern computers and smart devices get frequent software updates for general enhancements and bug fixes, that’s likely what this service update is about.

General Motors also issued a recall last summer on select units of the all-electric luxury crossover’s 2023 and 2024 model years due to a problem with the Electronic Brake Control Module. Fixing the issue will require an over-the-air update, performed either by the vehicle owner or by a dealership.

2023 was the debut model year for the Cadillac Lyriq. It was Cadillac’s first mass-market EV and the first GM model to ride on the BEV3 platform. This flexible EV platform now underpins many electric GM models, including the Chevy Equinox EV, Chevy Blazer EV, Cadillac Optiq, and Cadillac Vistiq. Production of the Lyriq takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.
