General Motors has released a Service Update for select units of the 2022-2023 GMC Hummer EV for a series of software updates. Service Update number N252502390 applies to certain units of the 2022-2023 Hummer EV that may require software updates that improve the customer experience and optimize future over-the-air (OTA) updates. This should take certified GM technicians approximately one hour to perform.
Examples in dealer possession can’t be sold or released until the software update is performed. At this time, it’s unclear how many Hummer EV trucks are affected by the service update.
This service update only applies to the 2022-2023 model year of the GMC Hummer EV. That means it only applies to the Hummer EV Pickup since the Hummer EV SUV didn’t come out until the 2024 model year.
GM issued a related pair of Customer Satisfaction Programs (CSPs) last fall for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV, which did apply to both the Pickup and the SUV. One called for reprogramming the Hummer EV’s software, similar to this new service update. The other was closely related and instructed GM technicians to replace the Chassis Control Module.
The updates specified in the documentation for this new service update include reprogramming the battery energy control module and reprogramming the radio. In much the same way modern computers and smart devices get frequent software updates for general enhancements and bug fixes, that’s likely what this service update is about.
2024 was the first year that the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV were both on the market. both variants are motivated by GM drive motor technology supplied with electricity by GM batteries. The SUV equips a 20-module battery pack exclusively, while the Pickup can be fitted with either a 20-module or 24-module battery pack.
This powertrain develops 570 horsepower for the SUV’s 2X trim and 830 horsepower for the 3X and Edition 1 trims. The figures are similar for the Pickup when the 20-module battery is installed, but the use of the 24-module battery increases output to 1,000 horsepower.
Both versions of the EV are underpinned by the wide-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, while production is carried out at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
