A rare GM coupe that was never marketed in the United States is up for sale on Barn Finds in Virginia. It’s a 1992 Opel Calibra, a sporty European coupe built in Finland and underpinned by the GMT2900 platform that would go on to serve as the basis for the Saab 9-3, Saab 9-5, and Saturn L-Series.
According to the Barn Finds listing, the seller bought this car in Poland in early 2024, drove it across Europe, and had it shipped to the United States. Now, it has a clean Virginia title and is ready for its next owner.
Under the hood, the valve cover says “OHC,” indicating that this Calibra is powered by its base engine, the 2.0L I4 C20NE, rated at 115 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. Output is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
This engine powered various European-marked Opel and Vauxhall models in the 1990s but never any USDM GM models, so buyer beware when it comes to sourcing parts. Recent service on the car reported by the seller includes a new timing belt, CV joints, and tires.
The odometer in the metric gauge cluster reads 146,265 km, which translates to 90,885 miles. It has a four-seat configuration and the whole rear glass opens up to reveal a generous cargo hold for a compact car. In terms of size, the Calibra is very similar to the first-generation Saturn SC.
This 1992 Opel Calibra has an asking price of $8,900, and the seller is open to offers. Unless you do what the seller did and buy one of these in Europe and ship it back home, this is a very rare opportunity for an American to buy an Opel Calibra. It’s not that powerful or luxurious, but it’s much more interesting than a Saturn of the same vintage.

8900 dollars for a poland end car is too much
Calibras were made in Rüsselsheim. It was only purchased in Poland. These were great cars.
it is because here in germany there are in mobile de same calibras in green red and other colors you find with so high km for € 1500 to 4300 euros… yeh in past went in some interviews in opel Rüsselsheim driving a vectra… at that time for example it had me a manager of concept body and a manager designer of design department- in interview we three were at a table, good environment indeed, but they took a piece of paper and said to draw a car, well made a mistake said about a saab saw in an expo by tv and tried to do it, i should have to draw a generic car not a model from them, because the design manager started to redraw my piece of paper explaining this and that, went home to munich by A9, but sincere if would be today, it is ok they did not hired me, Rüsselsheim is not my dream city to live, there is no beaches or ships
I remember this car in Gran Turismo. What a beast it was. I would get this car.
Nice looking car.
Another perfect example of rare not meaning valuable.
Hoovie should be all over this real fast ! 😛
Superb styling, considering the crap that was coming out from other makers in the ’90s. (Can you say “Catera, boys and girls?”) However, the interior is classic GM ’90s horrible. Then again, so was the Camry interior.
I worked in Ruesselsheim 1992-95 and saw many of these on the road. Great looking cars and very cool to have one in the U.S.!
Were you doing a GME assignment and working at the TDC?
