The 2025 GMC Sierra HD is the sixth model year for the latest fourth-generation heavy-duty pickup, once again offering a blend of rugged capability, modern technology, and, in the right configuration, upscale comfort as well. Of course, the heavy-duty Sierra is also quite capable when it comes to hauling stuff from A to B. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the 2025 GMC Sierra HD payload capacities.
As expected, Sierra HD buyers have wide range of payload capacities at their disposal depending on the truck’s configuration, drivetrain, engine, and drive type. The model with the highest payload capacity is the 2025 GMC Sierra 3500 HD Regular Cab Long Bed with dual rear wheels (DRW), rear-wheel drive, and the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which can carry up to 7,290 pounds. On the other end of the spectrum, the model with the lowest payload capacity is the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Crew Cab Standard Bed AT4X AEV Edition with four-wheel drive and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which has a payload capacity of just 2,701 pounds. The lower rating is due to the additional weight of off-road components and luxury features included in this special edition model, in addition to the design of said off-road components.

To note, the 2025 Sierra HD payload figures are identical to those for the 2024 model year.
As for the specs, the standard powertrain across the Sierra HD range is the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which is rated at 401 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 464 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, pairing with the Allison-branded 10‑speed automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, GM also offers the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is rated at 470 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and an impressive 975 pound-feet of torque at 1,600 rpm. Like the gasoline engine, the turbodiesel also connects to the Allison-branded 10‑speed automatic transmission.
Both engines are available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations across the 2500 HD and 3500 HD lineups.
Under the skin, the GMC Sierra HD rides on the GM BT1 platform.
