The 2025 Chevy Colorado debuts several important changes, including elimination of the base turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R engine, leaving the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B as the sole powerplant. The L3B delivers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque across all trim levels. Now, GM Authority is taking a closer look at the 2025 Chevy Colorado payload capacities.
The 2025 Chevy Colorado payload capacities vary depending on the trim level and drivetrain selected. At the high end, the WT (Work Truck) and LT trims each support a maximum payload of 1,710 pounds (776 kg) when equipped with rear-wheel drive. When equipped with four-wheel drive, both trims see a slight drop to 1,700 pounds (771 kg).
Meanwhile, the Trail Boss trim, which features a wealth of off-road upgrades and is equipped as standard with four-wheel drive, offers a payload capacity of 1,570 pounds (712 kg). In addition, the Z71 trim, which is also 4WD-only, offers a slightly higher payload rating of 1,590 pounds (721 kg).
At the bottom of the 2025 Colorado payload capacity list is the off-road-focused ZR2, which supports a payload of 1,310 pounds (594 kg). To note, the ZR2 is equipped with a range of standard off-roader-spec equipment, including DSSV Multimatic suspension, a three-inch factory-installed lift, 17-inch wheels wrapped in LT285/70R17 33-inch OD MT tires, and a unique front fascia, rear bumper, and fender flares.
Check out the table below for a side-by-side comparison of the 2025 Chevy Colorado payload capacities:
2025 Chevy Colorado Payload Capacities
Trim Level | Drivetrain | Turbo 2.7L I4 L3B |
---|---|---|
Payload (lbs / kg) | ||
WT | 2WD | 1,710 / 776 |
WT | 4WD | 1,700 / 771 |
LT | 2WD | 1,710 / 776 |
LT | 4WD | 1,700 / 771 |
Trail Boss | 4WD | 1,570 / 712 |
Z71 | 4WD | 1,590 / 721 |
ZR2 | 4WD | 1,310 / 594 |
As covered previously, the 2025 Chevy Colorado no longer offers the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, making the high-output L3B engine the only powertrain choice. Even so, the various trims and configurations on offer do provide some significant differentiation when it comes to payload capacity. In addition, the standard payload capacity for the WT and LT trims is effectively higher than it was for the 2024 model year.
As a reminder, the 2025 Colors rides on the GM updated GM 31XX-2 platform, while vehicle production takes place at the Wentzville Assembly Plant in Missouri.
Comment
GM needs to update the 5.3 output, since the Colorado has more torque in it’s only engine than the Silverado’s base V-8
