Have A Seat: GM Files To Trademark Elevera

GM has filed to trademark the name Elevera, set for use in a new vehicle seat design or technology.

The filing was made on June 27th, 2025, and was submitted as a standard character mark under U.S. Serial Number 99257125 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). According to the filing, the Elevera name will be used in conjunction with “vehicle seats sold as an integral component of automobiles.” The application was accepted by the USPTO, but has yet to be assigned to an examiner.

The trademark does not specify any font, style, or design characteristics, indicating that Elevera is intended for broad use as a brand or product line. Critically, while GM has filed trademarks for other seat-related trademarks in the past (for example, CoreTec and Evotex, which are associated with GM seat coverings and upholstery materials) Elevera is more likely related to a seat’s physical structure or functionality, rather than its surface materials.

The new trademark filing follows a series of General Motors patent filings set to secure the automaker’s next-generation seat technologies. Over the past year, the automaker has filed patents for things like a powered armrest system that maintains the armrest positioning as the seatback inclines forward and back, as well as a vertically adjustable seatback system. Another patent outlines an adjustable seat base with a variable center support system aimed at enhancing comfort and easing ingress and egress. One of the more advanced concepts is a gyroscopic seat design, which incorporates inner and outer shells connected by a slip device that allows for relative movement between the shells, thus reducing force transfer and potentially improving passenger safety during impacts when seated in different positions.

While the exact application of the Elevera trademark remains uncertain, it is reasonable to speculate that it could serve as a commercial name for a new generation of intelligent or adaptive vehicle seats, possibly linked to an upcoming vehicle interior and premium appointment.
