Some GM fans may have recently come across rumors that GM is aiming to revive the Chevy Chevelle, with images of new, eye-popping Chevy-branded machines sprinkled generously across social media. Unfortunately, these rumors are totally false, and GM Authority can confirm that General Motors has no plans to bring the Chevelle back, despite some viral content suggesting otherwise. In fact, the images in question were all generated using AI, as is the speculative text to back them, and unfortunately, Google seems to be shamelessly spreading these rumors via its Gemini LLM.
According to Google AI Overview, which leverages the Gemini LLM, the so-called 2026 Chevelle will mix “classic design elements with modern technology,” allegedly offering both gasoline and electric variants, as well as a fictional “ChEVelle SS” EV performance model. The videos promoting this misinformation rely on AI-generated images of concept vehicles that don’t exist and include baseless AI-generated speculation about non-existent powertrains and trim options – all of which Google is promoting when searching for terms like “2026 Chevelle.”
Unfortunately, this is nothing new, and can be shoved into the heap of “AI slop” that’s becoming more and more commonplace these days. For those folks that may be unaware, AI slop is essentially mass-produced, machine-generated content designed for maximum clicks with minimal regard for truth. In this case, the misinformation capitalizes on nostalgia for the Chevelle nameplate, which was last seen in Chevrolet’s lineup in 1977. GM doesn’t even have a clear path forward for the Camaro, last seen for the 2024 model year, much less the Chevelle.
With that in mind, it’s important to note that none of the claims circulating about the 2026 Chevelle have been substantiated by GM, nor have they been reported by credible automotive sources. The renderings are unofficial, the specifications are fictional, and the narrative is entirely AI-generated clickbait.
Finally, we should state that GM Authority remains committed to fact-based reporting and accurate coverage of all things General Motors, including potential future vehicle plans. When a new product is in the pipeline, we’ll cover it – based on real-world intel, not internet fantasy.

If they did, ICE only, no EV please!
Of course. Another Equinox or a cheap Buick something or another Hyundai is in development with a gray and black interior. The quest for the perfect Walmart car.
The Camaro and Malibu are dead, long live the storied Chevrolet Chevelle! Offer it in different trims: affordable family car and affordable personal street machine for enthusiastis. Race it on Sunday in NASCAR and sell it to on Monday to mom, pop, and the kids on Monday.
Now there’s an idea with potential to run. And don’t ruin it for the driver and passengers with those danged Camaro-esque slit windows which are as ugly and unsafe as a German pillbox above the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.
Chevrolet needs to make a sporty family car instead of all the SUV and trucks that are over priced. And offer better customer service than they do now/
Your statement about only reporting the facts and not the AI slop makes me think you are part of the Fox Network where they report and we decide. They are my favorite network and I really appreciate you keeping the truths coming also. Your publication is the only place that I have found some features for our salesmen to use when presenting our vehicles, like the recent article about ERS (Electronic Range Select) on our Silverados and Sierras. I finally understand it and the BEST feature is that it turns off the Auto stop feature that aggravates so many of my customers. Thank you for providing a “go-to” source for vehicle information. Now, if asked about the engine cover on the Colorado and Canyon I can intelligently explain what’s going on. Have an Awesome Day!
They’re not smart enough to bring it back, they’ve done some damn stupid things the last few years, it’s really quite amazing.
GM doesn’t know how to build anything like that. They can’t even redo the camaro. All they do is keep putting more safety crap on, increase price and charge thousands to fix. Can’t even build an engine anymore.
Sad when AI can create a better Chevy than General Ev/SUV Odors.
What a concept maybe it would bring back the younger buyer ,, But the brainiac’s trying to run GM are all brainless
Now THAT’S what I’m talkin’ about! Love those pictures in this article… especially the rear view and the interior.
THIS is the car that should be built on the Alpha platform…. NOT another Camaro (and especially NOT in the last body style with the high beltline and short windows!). Offer with V6 standard and V8 options.
As others have said, if offered in trim levels like the Chevelles of old, perhaps there WOULD be enough sales to justify it (since it could attract buyers other than the Camaro types, which is a much more limited audience than GM mid-size cars had).
Return of a GM muscle car… count me in!!
