GM’s All-New 2026 Wuling Starlight 730 MPV Officially Debuts

In addition to unveiling the Wuling Bingo S EV, Chinese joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has just officially debuted the all-new 2026 Wuling Starlight 730.

The automaker unveiled the all-new Wuling Starlight 730 as the next New Energy Vehicle from its best-selling brand in the Chinese market, introducing both the model’s name and the first official images of the next-generation Wuling MPV wearing the Global Silver logo. Like the Bingo S crossover EV, the Starlight 730 had also been leaked by Chinese authorities just before its official debut.

The all-new 2026 Wuling Starlight 730 debuts as a midsize MPV that will expand the Chinese brand’s larger family of electrified vehicles under the Starlight nameplate with a bolder proposition in China’s high-selling MPV segment. As such, the Starlight 730 becomes the third member of the family following the Wuling Starlight sedan and the Wuling Starlight S midsize crossover.

Built on the D platform of SGMW’s new Tianyu modular EV architecture, the all-new 2026 Wuling Starlight 730 represents the first MPV in Wuling’s next-generation product portfolio with an electrified powertrain and aims to establish itself as a benchmark in one of the largest segments in the Chinese market. Indeed, the Starlight 730 will be offered with the widest powertrain range, with gasoline, PHEV, and BEV variants.

Aesthetically, the 2026 Wuling Starlight 730 features two front-end designs that distinguish the gas and plug-in hybrid versions from the all-electric variant, which uses a closed grille and a more minimalist bumper. The smooth-lined body measures 193.3 inches long, 72.8 inches wide, and 69.7 inches tall on a 114.5-inch wheelbase. In addition, the Starlight 730 introduces segment-first sliding rear doors.

The all-new 2026 Wuling Starlight 730 is set to launch in the Chinese market in the final quarter of the year. While SGMW didn’t reveal powertrain details, the leaked Starlight 730 spec sheet indicates the gasoline version will use a turbocharged 1.5L engine that develops 130 kW or 174 horsepower, the PHEV variant is equipped with the 1.5L engine and an electric motor producing 78 kW or 105 horsepower, while the EV variant boasts an output of 100 kW or 134 horsepower.

  3. I don’t know….it looks very nondescript. Compared to other MPV models available from other Asian manufacturers it would definitely get lost in the crowd.

Maybe in typical GM style it was a “part bin build”? I would not buy this one.

  5. The Wuling brand is primarily associated with SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd. (SGMW), a joint venture established in 2002 between three entities: SAIC Motor Corporation Limited (50.1% stake), General Motors (GM) China (44% stake), and Guangxi Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (formerly Wuling Group, 5.9% stake). The Wuling brand originated with Liuzhou Wuling Automobile, founded in 1982, which is now a subsidiary of Guangxi Automobile Group. SGMW produces and sells vehicles under the Wuling and Baojun brands, primarily for the Chinese market, with exports to regions like Southeast Asia.
General Motors serves as a technology partner in the SGMW joint venture, contributing advanced technology, engineering expertise, and manufacturing systems to enhance vehicle production. GM does not own the Wuling brand; it is licensed by Guangxi Automobile Group, which retains its identity and historical roots in Liuzhou Wuling Automobile. GM’s involvement is limited to its 44% stake in the joint venture, focusing on technological collaboration rather than ownership of the Wuling brand.
This structure allows SGMW to utilize GM’s technological advancements while maintaining the Wuling brand’s distinct identity under Guangxi Automobile’s licensing.
